First impressions are supposedly made within less than one second. The unconscious mind will perceive, assess and form an opinion before your conscious mind had the chance to react. I’ve heard this som many times, not just about interviews, but for most meetings where the interview is won or lost in these vital first few moments. So how do you make a good first impression in an interview. For this we’ll just concentrate on the first few seconds.
Lets assume that you’ve done your homework and researched the job and company ahead of time. I also take it your wearing a freshly dry cleaned and pressed suit, and finally you’ve been practicing through a mock interview so your as ready as you can be.
Here are 3 tips so you don’ tblow all that great preparation work.
- Pull yourself together: make sure you’ve adjusted your tie, or anything else that need straightening before you enter the office.
- Give a firm but not crushing handshake and don’t give a “dead fish” handshake.
- Make eye contact when saying hello, but don’t stare that’s just creepy.
Keeping it simple makes it easier to remember and do, and starting off on a good note should help make the interview go that much easier and better.
